Fixing your Digital Freeview Box.
Having issues with your Freeview
box? Not sure where to begin to fix it? Check out the following tips
that will help you troubleshoot your Freeview box and get it working
right again! |
Setting up your Freeview Digital Box
To set up your Freeview digital box,
you need to take out the aerial lead from the back of your television
and plug it into the aerial socket of the digital box. This socket will
be marked something like “Ant in” or “Aerial.” Next, put one end of the
Scart lead into the socket in the digital box. This socket is usually
marked “Scart 1” or “TV.” Put your TV on standby and then turn it on
using your remote control. Plug the power lead of your Freeview digital box
into the electrical socket and turn it on. Most TVs will detect that
you have done this. If it doesn’t detect it automatically, use your TV
remote control to go to the AV1 channel on your TV. You need to select OK on the screen to start tuning.. One your Freeview digital box is tuned, the channels found will automatically be saved.. At this point you can use your Freeview remote control to explore the range of channels. |

Retuning Your Freeview Digital Box
Every once in a while, it’s necessary to retune your Freeview box because of the launch of new channels and updates
to the Freeview service. Retuning your Freeview box ensures that your
service will be up to date. Some Freeview products retune
automatically, like the TVonics range, but most require manual retuning. The process is actually quite simple, but it does vary with different Freeview products. |

First,
press the “Menu” button on your Freeview remote control. Then, you will
see an option that says something like Set-Up, Update, or Installation.
When you select this, you may be asked for a password. If so, the
default code should be either 1234 or 0000. At this point, you will see
an option that says something like Automatic Retune, Rescan, Channel
Search, or Store Channels. Select this option and it will find any new
channels or updates, and automatically save the found channels. |

|
If you follow these steps but you still encounter more problems, you may need to completely erase the memory of your Freeview digital box and retune it from scratch to find all the channels. All you need to do is go to the menu, select Settings
and choose Reset Set Top Box. You will
be asked to confirm that this is what you want to do, select Yes and the box
will start tuning. If it still doesn’t work properly, you may have a problem with your aerial. |

Aerial Troubleshooting with Your Freeview Digital Box
Freeview is transmitted through your TV’s aerial. Normally, all you need to do is connect your television to a Freeview digital box
and it should work properly. For most TVs, the current aerials will
work, assuming they have not been damaged or are in incorrect
positions. Some people may need an aerial upgrade if their televisions
are very old, but this will be the minority.
In most cases, if you are having trouble with your aerial, you should first check your cables
to make sure they are in good condition. Look for parts that might be
bent or worn out. If they seem to be fine, try to retune your Freeview
box. If this doesn’t work, check to see if there might be problems with
your local transmitter. If this is not the issue, check the aerial
itself. If possible, go outside and check that it is still standing and
that it is pointing in the same direction as the aerials of your
neighbours.
Hopefully one
of the suggestions above will provide you with the solution you need. If they
don’t, there could potentially be a problem with your Freeview box and you may
just need to buy a new one. For a wide selection of Freeview products,
visit TVonics.
